A sonnet is a poem consisting of 14 lines of verse. The Shakespearean sonnet has a rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG, but there are other types of sonnets. An important part of the sonnet is the volta, the turning point, after which the mood or attitude of the poem changes.
